You might perhaps remember the View Certificates button in Google Chrome which has not been removed from the browser.

As someone who’s concerned a lot about my online security, I regularly check the certificates of the websites demanding my personal information. HTTPS is not the only security feature you should care, but it is an important one regardless.

If you want to view the certificate of a website currently, you’ll need to press the F12 (to open the Dev tools) then go to the Security tab and then click on the View Certificate button.

It’s absolutely bonkers that they removed such a small element from Chrome’s UI that didn’t even hinder any functionality.

  • Press F6 to go to the Omni bar in Chrome and type the following URI:

    chrome://flags/#show-cert-link
  • Click on Enable link.

  • Once the RELAUNCH NOW popup shows up on the bottom of your screen, click on it.

That’s it. Now, when you click on a website’s green secure padlock icon, you’ll see a View Certificate button there.
